A vintage steam train in the German countryside

Würzburg-A Steam Train Journey

Würzburg, Germany-

Rudi von Rothenburg was onboard as the nostalgic steam train chugged through the beautiful Franken countryside on Saturday the 15th of March.

The journey was sponsored by the organization of train enthusiasts named GleisGlück.

We drove to Würzburg to catch the train for  the half-day journey to Gemünden am Main, where Rudi’s father was born. The old train made several stops along the way to refill its large water tanks. We learned that a century ago, travelers needed to have a lot of patience. (Well, come to think of it, it’s rather similar today).

Rudi received a very warm welcome from the engineer.

The 1912 model steam engine or „Dampfzug“ pulled vintage wagons from the 1960‘s that were common all over Germany until the new designs were rolled out after the year 2000.
