Rothenburg‘s Medieval Castle Wall

Rothenburg‘s Medieval Castle Wall

Rothenburg has many fascinating corners filled with centuries of history and the picturesque Burggarten is no exception. Located at the end of Herrngasse off the Marketsquare, the beautiful green space in the city is a peaceful refuge for both residents and tourists alike.

At the farthest end of the little garden peninsula one can see a glimpse of the rugged 1000-year old stone wall that was built at the time Rothenburg’s small castle was still standing. Unfortunately there is no record of how the castle looked, other than random references to the existence of a small castle. The small stone chapel that served the castle has also miraculously survived over the centuries and now houses a somber war memorial.
