Trouble at Harburg Castle
The impressive Harburg Castle is among the oldest fortifications in Germany, built high upon a hill by Hohenstaufen emperors in the 11th or 12th century. It was utilized by the German Gestapo secret police during WW2 and prisoners were kept and interrogated there.

One of the castle entrances is protected by a frightening wooden gate that could be quickly lowered to impale enemies.
Nowadays the castle is a friendlier place, with an extensive tin soldier exhibition and a Bavarian restaurant.
Today‘s fun at Harburg castle came to a quick end as Rudi was placed in the old wooden Pranger, a medieval punishment device. But after revealing his royal lineage, he was released with many apologies and a delicious dog treat.
