Würzburg-Mighty Major Renovations
The mighty Marienberg Fortress has been a stunning landmark high above the city of Würzburg for the past 600 years. It is hard to even imagine that the castle will be undergoing major renovations for the next 10 years to prepare for an expanded museum.
Recently a large crane and other construction equipment was carefully brought under the medieval arches and into the inner courtyard with only inches to spare. We were there to watch as one of the large cranes very slowly and carefully drove under.
In preparation for the construction, the ancient artifacts of the castle museum were packed up and are currently being stored in a room without any oxygen. This measure insures that no insects can remain alive to damage the ancient wood items. I had no idea it was even a problem but they’re glad to have the rare opportunity to get rid of them!
Rudi was quite disappointed that he wasn’t able to enter the courtyard due to the construction but nonetheless he had a nice walk in beautiful fall weather.
